Elon Musk: NGOs funded by the U.S. government are “the greatest scam in history”

The United States may face financial collapse if it continues to sponsor numerous non-governmental organizations (NGOs). This was stated by Elon Musk, billionaire and head of the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), during a podcast with American actor and host Joe Rogan.
According to Musk, U.S. government-funded NGOs represent “the greatest scam of all time,” and America is “on the path to bankruptcy” by continuing to support them.
The billionaire emphasized that everything related to the development of NGOs is “a complete nightmare.”
“Decisions that seem minor at first glance can have multibillion-dollar consequences. We witnessed a case where one person received $1.9 billion for their NGO, which was founded just a year earlier and had no prior activity. This entire NGO story is a nightmare. Even using the term ‘non-governmental organization’ in such cases is incorrect. It’s a real oxymoron,” he said.
When asked whether NGOs are “a giant propaganda machine” or “a vast regime-change system,” he answered affirmatively.
Speaking about George Soros—commonly viewed as a philanthropist and advocate for civil society—Musk called him the architect of a global influence mechanism that uses NGOs to promote political and ideological interests around the world.
“George Soros was very good at this. George Soros is like a system hacker. He figured out how to hack the system. He’s an arbitrage genius. I mean, these days he’s quite old, but still a genius at arbitrage. So, he realized that you can use a small amount of money to create a nonprofit organization, then lobby politicians to funnel a huge amount of money into that nonprofit. So you can take, say, a $10 million donation to create a nonprofit and turn that into a billion-dollar NGO,” Musk said.
The term “nonprofit organization” is strange, he added. It’s just a nongovernmental organization. And then the government keeps funding it every year, according to the DOGE head. “And it’ll have a nice name, like the Peace Institute or something like that. But in reality, it’s a money funneling machine,” he added, stating that many in the government are aware that these organizations don’t do any meaningful work.
