Due to extreme heat, the Eiffel Tower has become 10 cm taller

One of Paris’s main landmarks, the Eiffel Tower, has increased in height by 10 cm due to extreme heat, Nexta Live reports.

Experts note that metal structures expand at high temperatures: with a temperature increase of around 10 degrees, a structure can lengthen by approximately 2 cm. After cooling, the metal—and therefore the Eiffel Tower—returns to its normal size.

In recent days, temperatures in Paris have exceeded 40°C. A similar situation has been observed in other European cities.

The Eiffel Tower was built in 1889 and is 300 meters tall, roughly equivalent to 75 floors. After its completion, it was the tallest man-made structure in the world. It held this status until 1930, when the Chrysler Building (319 m) was completed in New York. At present, the Eiffel Tower is the second tallest structure in France, after a 350-meter radio mast built in 1939.
