Death Toll from Earthquake in Myanmar Exceeds 3,300

In Myanmar, the number of people killed as a result of a devastating earthquake has risen to 3,354. More than 4,800 people have been injured, and over 200 are reported missing.
The country has declared a week of mourning starting April 1. A week after the earthquake, hopes of finding survivors under the rubble are nearly gone. Rescue efforts are being hampered by hot weather, with temperatures reaching up to 40 degrees Celsius (104°F).
In the city of Mandalay, located near the earthquake’s epicenter, the heat has accelerated the decomposition of bodies, which may complicate the identification process.
On March 28, several powerful earthquakes struck Myanmar, with magnitudes reaching up to 7.7. Aftershocks were felt in Thailand, China, and Vietnam. In Thailand’s capital, Bangkok, a 30-story unfinished building collapsed. A total of 19 people died in Thailand due to the earthquake, and 75 people are still reported missing.
