CBS News: Ukraine has agreed to the “peace agreement” proposed by the United States
The government of Ukraine has agreed to the U.S. “peace agreement,” reached with the mediation of President Donald Trump’s administration. CBS News reported this, citing a U.S. official.
He and Ukraine’s national security adviser Rustem Umerov stated that a general understanding of the proposal had been reached, though details still need to be finalized.
“The Ukrainians have agreed to the peace deal. There are some minor details that need to be ironed out, but they have agreed to the peace deal,” the U.S. official said.
It is noted that the news emerged while U.S. Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll was in Abu Dhabi meeting with Russian officials. Russia, which invaded Ukraine, has not yet responded to the agreements reached in Abu Dhabi.
A U.S. military representative in Abu Dhabi told CBS News that on Tuesday Driscoll held hours-long negotiations with Russian representatives, appearing at and leaving meetings throughout the day. He said:
“We remain very optimistic. Secretary Driscoll is optimistic. We hope to receive a response from the Russians soon. Things are moving quickly.”
The American representative told CBS News that a Ukrainian delegation was also present and was maintaining communication with Driscoll and his team.
A source familiar with the situation stated that Driscoll is working in Abu Dhabi on a revised version of the 28-point White House proposal after productive negotiations in Geneva.
Last weekend, Driscoll, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, the president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, as well as diplomats from Ukraine and European allies took part in negotiations in Geneva, Switzerland. As a result, the sides modified the “peace plan” — out of the 28 points, only 19 remained.
