At Least 15 Killed in Air Attack on Kyiv

At least 15 people were killed in a massive drone strike carried out by Russia on Kyiv during the night of Tuesday, June 17. This was reported by Ukraine’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Ihor Klymenko, on his Telegram channel.
According to him, 27 locations across different districts of the city were hit. Among the targets were residential buildings, educational institutions, and critical infrastructure. In one multi-story residential building, an entire stairwell collapsed.
In the Dnipro district, a Shahed-type drone fragment became lodged in the wall of a residential building, wrote the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko. According to preliminary information, no fire occurred and no one was injured. Later, Tkachenko reported that 99 people were injured in the attack, 59 of whom were hospitalized.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said more than 40 apartments were destroyed. “There may be people under the rubble. We do not rule out the possibility that the death toll may rise,” Klitschko stated on Kyiv TV.
In addition to the Solomianskyi district, fires also broke out in the Darnytskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts, the mayor said. In Holosiivskyi and parts of Darnytskyi, power was cut off “due to an automatic shutdown,” Klitschko added. He noted that utility crews were already working to fix the outages.
In the early hours of June 17, Russian drones also attacked Odesa. Fires broke out and destruction was reported, said Odesa Regional Military Administration head Oleh Kiper. Later updates indicated that 13 people were injured in Odesa, including a child.
The previous large-scale Russian drone attack on Kyiv occurred on the night of June 10. Seven districts of the Ukrainian capital were targeted, several fires broke out, and four people were injured.
