Today is Good Friday — the most solemn day of Holy Week
Today is Good Friday, the most solemn day of Holy Week. The Orthodox Church commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, His removal from the cross, and His burial.
In churches, the rite of the bringing out of the Shroud will be performed. On Good Friday, the Divine Liturgy is not celebrated, since, according to the Gospel, the Lord sacrificed Himself for the redemption of people’s sins. During the service, the Royal Hours are held, during which passages from the Gospel about the Passion of the Lord are read.
On this day, believers dye eggs red. They also bake Easter cakes, since, according to the Gospel, the crucifixion of Jesus Christ took place on the day of the Jewish Passover.
