Prime Minister of Georgia Discusses Fuel Prices with Representatives of Major Fuel Companies
The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, met with representatives of major fuel companies operating in Georgia in the format of the existing government coordination commission on food prices.
At the commission meeting, current fuel prices in Georgia and possible options for reducing them were discussed.
It was noted that, unlike food prices, fuel prices in Georgia are significantly lower than in European countries. This is partly due to the excise tax in Georgia being approximately three times lower than the corresponding tax in European countries. Nevertheless, some discussion regarding possible price reductions is possible.
The head of government heard the views of fuel company representatives on how they assess the current market situation, the functioning of the supply chain, and the price formation mechanism.
The meeting was held in a discussion format.
The parties agreed that the dialogue will continue in working mode.
Starting next week, discussions on the prices of food, medicine, and fuel will be transferred to the format of a parliamentary commission.
