Georgian police solve 43 car theft cases — five people arrested
Officers of the Tbilisi Police Department of the Main Divisions of Old Tbilisi and Didube–Chugureti of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, as a result of various operational measures and investigative actions, arrested five individuals accused of group theft — A.K. (born in 2004), L.Ch. (born in 2006), A.I. (born in 2005), S.K. (born in 2008), and N.S. (born in 2003), who has a prior conviction and is currently under probation. The information was released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
“The investigation established that in October of this year, late at night, the accused damaged the windshields of 43 vehicles in the areas of Old Tbilisi, Vake–Saburtalo, and Didube–Chugureti, and unlawfully took personal belongings, electronic devices, and various amounts of money from inside the cars.
As a result of the investigative actions, all five individuals were detained as suspects. During searches of their personal and residential premises, police seized part of the stolen items as material evidence. The investigation is ongoing under subparagraphs ‘a’ and ‘b’ of parts two and three of Article 177 of the Criminal Code of Georgia,” the MIA statement reads.
According to the ministry, the crime carries a penalty of up to seven years of imprisonment.
