Employees of the Investigative Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia detained one person on charges of storing and transporting a particularly large batch of excisable goods without excise stamps.
According to the statement released by the Investigative Service of the Ministry of Finance, as a result of the operative-search and investigative measures carried out, a total of 93,000 packs of untaxed cigarettes of the brands Marlboro, PARLIAMENT, SOBRANIE, and Winston were seized. Their market value exceeds 750,000 GEL.
“The investigation into the case continues under Part 3 of Article 200 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for imprisonment for a term of 6 to 8 years.
The Investigative Service continues intensive efforts to identify other persons involved in the criminal scheme and to ensure appropriate legal response,” the statement says.
