State Security Service of Georgia: Georgian Citizen Illegally Detained by Russian Occupation Forces Has Been Released
"A Georgian citizen who was illegally detained by Russian occupation forces on June 22, 2026, near the village of Bershueti in the Gori Municipality, has been released and is currently on territory controlled by the central government of Georgia," the State Security Service of Georgia (SSG) said.
"During the process of securing the release of the illegally detained Georgian citizen, all relevant mechanisms available to the central authorities were actively utilized, including the 'hotline' operated by the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM).
The State Security Service continues to work actively to secure the release of all Georgian citizens who are being illegally held in custody in the occupied territories," the SSG said in a statement.
