Prosecutor’s Office Charges Head of Shuakhevi District Police and Head of the Detective Department for Abuse of Power
The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has charged the head of the Shuakhevi District Police Department of the Adjara Autonomous Republic Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as the head of the detective department of the same division, with abuse of official powers.
According to the investigation conducted by the General Inspection of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it was established that the head of the Shuakhevi District Police, abusing his official powers for personal gain, unjustly accused four local residents of stealing timber valued at 4,200 lari from his private property, threatened them with arrest, and demanded compensation for damages. The victims took the threat seriously and, although they had committed no crime, in October of this year delivered timber worth 4,200 lari to the accused.
Additionally, the accused was illegally constructing a house in the Shuakhevi area and, from September 2025, systematically involved four of his subordinates on duty to transport and arrange timber using an official vehicle.
The head of the Shuakhevi District Police Detective Department, who was also illegally constructing a cottage at the Goderdzi ski resort, systematically used official vehicles and fuel to safely transport various construction and timber materials. He also abused his official position by instructing on-duty staff to carry out these tasks.
Employees of the General Inspection of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained the accused on December 11. During conducted searches, both processed timber and cut logs were seized.
The detainees have been charged under Part One of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (abuse of official powers against public interest for personal gain), which carries a penalty of up to six years of imprisonment.
The Prosecutor’s Office has already applied to the court to impose pre-trial detention on the accused.
