Police in Kakheti detained two people on charges of group extortion, violation of privacy, and driving a person to suicide

Officers of the Lagodekhi District Division of the Kakheti Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia detained N.G., born in 2006, and N.M., born in 2007. They are charged with group extortion, violating the secrecy of private life for financial gain, and driving a person to suicide. The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported this.

According to the agency, the investigation established that last summer the accused, in order to extort money, distributed photo and video materials of a private nature on social media concerning a man — G.G., born in 1994. Shortly after this incident, G.G. died by suicide.

“As a result of comprehensive operational measures and investigative actions, law enforcement officers detained N.G. and N.M. as defendants.

The investigation is being conducted under Articles 181, 157¹, and 115 of the Criminal Code, which предусматриes a penalty of up to 9 years of imprisonment,” the statement says.
