Police in Georgia Detain 75 People on Drug-Related Charges Over the Past 48 Hours — A Particularly Large Quantity of Narcotics Seized

According to Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Giorgi Sahokia, 75 people have been detained on drug-related charges over the past 48 hours, including both Georgian and foreign citizens. The deputy minister announced this during a briefing held at the ministry.

As Sahokia noted during the briefing, the detainees are accused of the illegal acquisition, possession, distribution, and facilitation of the distribution of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in large and especially large quantities.

“The Ministry of Internal Affairs continues to actively and strictly respond to crimes related to narcotics. Law enforcement officers conducted another successful special police operation simultaneously in Tbilisi and the regions.

Over the past 48 hours, 75 people have been detained on drug-related charges, including both Georgian and foreign citizens. They are accused of the illegal acquisition, possession, distribution, and facilitation of the distribution of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in large and especially large quantities.

Based on a court warrant and the covert investigative actions carried out—specifically audio and video recordings—it was confirmed that most of the detainees systematically sold narcotic substances, using various methods and approaches to do so.

As a result of searches of the suspects’ personal belongings, vehicles, and residences, as well as during an investigative experiment, large quantities of various types of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances prepared for distribution were seized from locations indicated by the suspects. These included: cocaine, heroin, alpha-PVP, MDMA, methadone, Subutex, buprenorphine, pregabalin, Lyrica, and marijuana.

The police also seized firearms, materials necessary for packaging narcotics, and money allegedly obtained from drug sales.

The investigation is being conducted under Articles 260, 260 (Part 3), 260 (Part 4), and 261 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for imprisonment of up to 20 years or life,” Giorgi Sahokia stated.
