One Person Detained in Tbilisi on Fraud Charges

Officers of the Vake-Saburtalo Main Division of the Tbilisi Police Department under Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs have detained a citizen, A.Ts., born in 1994, on fraud charges, based on a court order — the Ministry reported.

According to the investigation, the accused A.Ts., together with the already convicted D.Ts., born in 1986, acted as the heads of the construction company “Sector 7” between 2020 and 2024. They signed contracts with citizens and sold them apartments in a building under construction. Despite receiving payments, they failed to complete the construction and did not transfer ownership of the apartments to the buyers. As a result, 161 citizens were defrauded, with the total damage amounting to 11 million GEL.

Law enforcement officers have detained A.Ts. as a suspect, while D.Ts., who is already serving a sentence, will face additional charges as a member of an organized group, the Ministry said.

According to the agency, the investigation is being conducted under parts 3 and 4 of Article 180 of Georgia’s Criminal Code.

For reference: the crime is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
