Migration Department officers detained 28 foreign nationals in Georgia following a special immigration control operation
As part of the fight against illegal migration, officers of the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia carried out a special immigration control operation, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports.
“Based on the information obtained, during the operation the department’s officers inspected specific locations in order to identify foreign nationals staying in Georgia without legal grounds.
As a result of the comprehensive operation, 28 foreign nationals were detained. Among them are citizens of Iran, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Nepal, Sierra Leone, Bangladesh, Jordan, Ethiopia, and Afghanistan.
It was established that the detained individuals were staying in the country in violation of the requirements set out in the Law of Georgia ‘On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons’.
At present, the detainees have been placed in the Migration Department’s Temporary Accommodation Center. Relevant procedures are underway with the aim of deporting them from the country.
The Migration Department regularly carries out special immigration control measures to ensure the effective enforcement of the Law of Georgia ‘On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons’,” the statement says.
