Law Enforcement Seizes Illegal Firearms and Ammunition in Tbilisi and Regions of Georgia — 14 People Detained

Officers of the Patrol Police Department, as well as the police departments of Imereti, Kvemo Kartli, Tbilisi, Samegrelo–Zemo Svaneti, the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, Guria, and Kakheti of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, detained 14 individuals during preventive police operations on charges of illegally acquiring, possessing, and carrying firearms and ammunition, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.

“During searches of the detainees, their residences, and auxiliary buildings, law enforcement officers seized various types of firearms and ammunition as evidence. Narcotic substances were also confiscated from one of the detainees.

The investigation is being conducted under Articles 236 and 260 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provide for a penalty of up to 7 years’ imprisonment,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
