Law enforcement officers seized a particularly large batch of various drugs in the Batumi port — a foreign citizen has been detained

Law enforcement officers in Georgia have seized a particularly large batch of various types of drugs at the Batumi port.

“The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia continues its uncompromising fight against the illegal import and distribution of narcotic substances in the country.

As a result of a large-scale joint police operation carried out by the Central Criminal Police, the Patrol Police, and the Border Police, another major case of drug trafficking has been prevented,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia said in a statement.

“In particular, law enforcement officers seized from a truck that arrived at the Batumi port a particularly large quantity of various types of narcotic substances: 1 kilogram and 167 grams of cocaine, more than 2,000 MDMA tablets, 2 kilograms of MDMA crystals, about 2 kilograms of clephedrone, 1 kilogram of ketamine, and cardboard sheets containing the narcotic substance LSD.

A foreign citizen has been detained.

According to evidence gathered during the investigation, the truck entered the Batumi Port checkpoint from the Republic of Bulgaria. Law enforcement officers discovered the particularly large quantities of narcotic substances hidden inside a fire extinguisher in the truck’s trailer using a special scanner.

Operational and investigative activities are actively continuing to identify other individuals involved in this drug-related crime and bring them to criminal responsibility.

The investigation into the illegal acquisition, possession, and import into Georgia of particularly large quantities of narcotic and psychotropic substances is being conducted under Articles 260, 261, 262, and 263 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

The ministry also reminded the public that, over the past four months, law enforcement agencies have uncovered and prevented several cases of transnational drug trafficking. Several individuals have been detained in connection with these criminal cases, and 750 kilograms of heroin have been seized. The crime is punishable by up to 20 years of imprisonment or life in prison,” - the ministry stated.
