Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia Detains One Person for Attempting to Import a Particularly Large Consignment of Goods with Customs Violations

Staff from the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, in coordination with the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, detained one person as a result of operational and investigative actions for attempting to import a particularly large consignment of goods into the customs territory of Georgia with customs violations. This was reported by the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance.
"The investigation established that the accused attempted to secretly transport, through the 'Sarpi' customs checkpoint and bypassing customs control, gold jewelry weighing a total of 2,276 grams with a customs value of 346,908 lari."
The investigation is being conducted under Part 2 of Article 214 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for imprisonment for a term of 5 to 7 years, according to the statement.
