The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has charged one individual with the illegal acquisition and possession of firearms and ammunition, the прокуратура reports.

“An investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs established that the accused illegally acquired and possessed three automatic firearms and one machine gun, which were unlawfully kept in a residential house located in the Chokhatauri municipality.

As a result of investigative actions, law enforcement officers seized the said firearms.

The detainee has been charged under Part Three of Article 236 of Georgia’s Criminal Code (illegal acquisition and possession of firearms and ammunition), which предусматривает наказание до 6 лет лишения свободы.

Within the timeframe established by law, the Prosecutor’s Office will apply to the court with a motion to impose pre-trial detention as a preventive measure,” the statement said.
