Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs Destroys an Unprecedented Amount — 926 Kilograms of Narcotics

A permanent commission established on the basis of an order by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia has destroyed 926 kilograms of various types of narcotic drugs that were seized from illegal circulation as a result of investigative activities conducted at different times across Georgia. Their total value on the so-called “black market” exceeds 19 million lari.

According to the statement by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, employees of the Forensic and Criminology Department destroyed an especially large amount of various narcotic substances in a special modern high-temperature furnace (incinerator), including cocaine, heroin, methadone, MDMA, alpha-PVP, ketamine, clephedrone, buprenorphine, tramadol, codeine, diazepam and marijuana. Psychotropic substances and new psychoactive substances of various types were also destroyed.

“In accordance with current legislation, representatives of the General Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Protection participated in the drug destruction process, which was carried out in compliance with modern environmental standards, together with the members of the permanent commission — employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

It should be noted that the narcotic substances seized as material evidence are stored in a specially equipped facility that meets international standards. After court verdicts in the respective criminal cases enter into legal force, they are subject to destruction,” the statement says.
