Georgian Prosecutor’s Office Charges Individual in Gori with Attempted Premeditated Murder of Spouse under Aggravating Circumstances

The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has charged one person in Gori in connection with domestic violence and attempted premeditated murder of a spouse under aggravating circumstances.

According to the investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, on June 18 of this year in Gori, the accused inflicted multiple wounds on his wife using a knife and a traumatic pistol. Thanks to timely medical assistance, the woman was saved.

“Law enforcement officers arrested the suspect on June 19. He has been charged under Article 126¹, Part 1 (domestic violence), and Subparagraphs ‘t’ and ‘k’ of Article 19-109 of the Georgian Criminal Code (attempted premeditated murder under aggravating circumstances, committed on the grounds of intolerance toward gender equality, against a family member), which carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison,” the Prosecutor’s Office stated.

The Prosecutor’s Office will submit a motion within the legally defined timeframe requesting the court to impose pre-trial detention as a preventive measure.
