The Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia has arrested Domenti (Dito) Chubinidze, a representative of the newspaper Asaval-Dasavali, on charges of treason, specifically sabotage, pursuant to a court ruling.

As Beka Kvitsiani, Deputy Head of the Investigation Division, stated at a briefing held at the Prosecutor General’s Office, since February 2026, Domenti Chubinidze has been systematically spreading false information and disinformation through various media outlets and social media platforms. Relying on fabricated facts, he claims that the Prime Minister of Georgia transferred part of the David Gareji Monastery Complex to the Republic of Azerbaijan under a secret agreement concluded with a neighboring state.

“An investigation conducted by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia has conclusively established that the state border is determined by an international treaty or agreement concluded with a neighboring state, which must subsequently be ratified by the Parliament of Georgia. Furthermore, the authority to conduct negotiations and make decisions on matters concerning the definition and establishment of the border rests exclusively with the Governmental Commission of Georgia on the Delimitation and Demarcation of the State Border.

Within the framework of the governmental commission’s mandate, no agreement has yet been reached with the neighboring state regarding the definition and establishment of the border in the section encompassing the David Gareji Monastery Complex. The aforementioned legal procedure even theoretically rules out the possibility of the Prime Minister of Georgia unilaterally transferring territory to another state.

Despite this, in an attempt to create a public perception that the fabricated story about the transfer of state territory to a neighboring country—which has no legal basis whatsoever—is true, Domenti Chubinidze repeatedly linked the death of his interviewee, Lazare Jorbenadze, to a murder motivated by revenge. According to his claims, the alleged murder was supposedly prompted by Lazare Jorbenadze’s disclosure of compromising information about the Prime Minister.

Through these actions, Domenti Chubinidze deliberately committed sabotage to the detriment of the legitimate interests of the Georgian state, obstructing the normal functioning of a state agency and the Governmental Commission of Georgia on the Delimitation and Demarcation of the State Border.

Based on the evidence obtained during the investigation, Domenti Chubinidze will be charged with treason, specifically sabotage. This offense carries a penalty of up to four years’ imprisonment.

Within the time limit established by law, the Prosecutor’s Office will apply to the court for the imposition of detention as a preventive measure against the accused.

The investigation into the case is ongoing, and we will provide the public with additional information regarding its progress and results,” Beka Kvitsiani stated.
