The National Food Agency Uncovered Illegal Cheese Production in Western Georgia

Inspectors from the Georgian National Food Agency identified an illegal cheese processing facility in the Imereti region, in the village of Geguti, Tsqaltubo Municipality. An individual was operating without registration in the Economic Activities Registry and without recognition from the National Food Agency, the agency reports.

According to the agency, the inspection revealed violations of sanitary and hygiene standards and other regulatory requirements. In accordance with the law, the business operator was fined, and the production process was halted.

“Violations were recorded at the cheese processing enterprise LLC ‘Ragosits’ (Reg. No. 419617258; address: Tkibuli Municipality, village of Samtredia). The business operator was operating without recognition from the National Food Agency and did not comply with other requirements, for which they were fined, and the production process was stopped.

The National Food Agency once again urges business operators to promptly update their registration in the Economic Activities Registry and, if necessary, obtain recognition from the agency.

The National Food Agency carries out state control across the country on a 24/7 basis,” the released statement said.
