Georgia’s Ministry of Economy briefed a U.S. State Department representative on the Anaklia port project
Georgia’s Ministry of Economy presented the Anaklia deep-sea port project to Peter Andreoli, a representative of the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs. He met with Deputy Minister Tamar Ioseliani.
According to the ministry, the parties discussed in detail the port’s master plan and the design of the maritime infrastructure — on the basis of which construction and mobilization works are currently underway.
The Deputy Minister briefed the American delegation in detail on the stages of the project’s implementation and emphasized its special strategic importance.
Tamar Ioseliani noted that the Anaklia deep-sea port is one of the key projects of Georgia’s transport and logistics infrastructure, which will play an important role in the effective functioning of the Middle Corridor, strengthening regional connectivity, and positioning the country as a regional hub.
The parties also discussed in detail the port’s master plan and the design of the maritime infrastructure, on the basis of which construction and mobilization works for the port are being carried out.
Along with maritime infrastructure, the railway sector was also discussed — it was noted that the railway is a critical link of the Middle Corridor.
At the same time, Tamar Ioseliani introduced the delegation to planned projects in the railway sector and major investments being implemented by the state in this direction. Among them is the project of a railway line connecting to Anaklia.
Taken together, these projects form a multimodal transport system and ensure a significant increase in the corridor’s capacity and operational efficiency.
The meeting was attended by executives of the Anaklia Sea Port company, Georgian Railway, and the Maritime Transport Agency. The ministry emphasized that Anaklia is a key infrastructure project for the country, and the railway is a “critical link” of the Middle Corridor.
