The European Union has approved the 19th package of sanctions against Russia

The European Union has adopted a new, 19th package of sanctions against Russia, which includes measures targeting the so-called “shadow fleet” of oil tankers and a ban on the import of liquefied natural gas. The decision was announced on October 23 by Denmark’s presidency of the EU Council. The new sanctions will take effect on January 1.
“This is a good day for Europe and Ukraine,” said Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen in a statement published ahead of the EU summit in Brussels. According to him, the new sanctions “introduce new and comprehensive measures concerning oil, gas, the ‘shadow fleet,’ and Russia’s financial sector.”
The EU’s decision comes a day after U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration announced new sanctions against Russia’s oil industry. These measures are intended to compel Russian President Vladimir Putin to come to the negotiating table and put an end to Russia’s war against Ukraine.
