Israel Accuses Hamas of Derailing Peace Agreement
The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Hamas has rejected certain provisions of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, according to a report by The Times of Israel.
The Israeli government accused Hamas militants of creating a "last-minute crisis" that is "hindering the achievement of an agreement," which, among other things, includes the release of Israeli hostages.
"The Israeli Cabinet will not convene until mediators inform Israel that Hamas has accepted all elements of the agreement," the Prime Minister's Office stated.
On January 15, Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed Al Thani announced that Israel and Hamas had signed a ceasefire agreement, with hostilities set to end on January 19. The agreement includes the release of Israeli hostages captured by Hamas in exchange for Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.
