“The expanded assembly of the Georgian Orthodox Church will take place on May 11, 2026, at 1:00 PM in Tbilisi, at the Holy Trinity Patriarchal Cathedral,” the Public Relations Service of the Georgian Patriarchate reports.
“The organizational and technical details related to the assembly will become known later,” the statement says.
For reference: the Holy Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church selected three candidates for the patriarchal throne — the locum tenens of the patriarchal throne, Metropolitan Shio (Mujiri) of Senaki and Chkhorotsku; Metropolitan Iob of the Urbnisi and Ruisi Diocese; and Metropolitan Grigol of Poti and Khobi.
