Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, participated in the International Space Summit in Paris.

As part of the summit, three declarations on space security were adopted, to which Georgia joined. According to Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Georgia will participate in the process of making relevant decisions together with its European partners.

“It is important for Europe to have its own vision and an independent policy regarding space. As a small country, our resources in this area are limited, but we are part of the decision-making process. We participate in making relevant decisions on various international platforms.

The summit was opened by the President of the French Republic. Emmanuel Macron spoke about the capabilities of the European space industry and noted that Europe must ensure its own strategic independence and sovereignty in space, particularly in the areas of satellite communications, defense and security.

According to the French president, space infrastructure is now directly linked to the security and strategic autonomy of states. That is why the official focus areas of the summit are the space economy, science, research and security.

Emmanuel Macron emphasized the importance of strengthening international cooperation and making the necessary investments to enhance European autonomy, as, in his assessment, satellite communications, navigation and related infrastructure have already become part of European sovereignty.
