Inspectors from the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Department of Georgia’s National Food Agency discovered eight cattle carcasses of unknown origin in a Ford minibus in the area near the settlement of Tsitsamuri. The National Food Agency of Georgia reported.

“Traceability procedures established that the cattle had been slaughtered at an illegal slaughterhouse located in the yard of a private individual, R. O., in the village of Tsikhisdziri, Mtskheta Municipality. The slaughterhouse was operating without registration in the economic activity registry and without the mandatory recognition by the National Food Agency.

Critical violations were identified at the makeshift slaughterhouse, and the individual was fined in accordance with the law. The meat of unknown origin was sealed and will be destroyed under the supervision of the agency.

The National Food Agency once again calls on consumers not to purchase meat without a veterinary health mark and Form No. 2, and urges businesses to operate in accordance with legal requirements and comply with food safety regulations,” the statement said.
