Andria Jagmaidze: the date of the expanded church council has not yet been specified, however it will take place before May 17

You know that three candidates are participating in the election for the throne of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia. If any of them receives 20 votes already in the first round, a second round will not be held. If none of the three candidates receives 20 or more votes, then a second round will be held between the two candidates who received the highest number of votes — on the same day, at the same place. This was stated by the head of the Public Relations Service of the Patriarchate of Georgia, Andria Jagmaidze.

According to him, the holding of the expanded church council will not go beyond the established timeframe.

“The main preparation for the meeting is taking place here, at the Patriarchate, so we are closely monitoring the process. There are many issues to resolve, and the technical part requires very detailed work so that everything is predetermined. As for the date, it has not yet been specified, however it will take place before May 17. The procedure is that the members of the Synod will vote again — this time they must choose one among three candidates. However, not only the Synod will be present there.

The meeting is called expanded because representatives from all dioceses, all monasteries, and higher theological educational institutions will be present, as well as civilians from various segments of society, and the voting will take place in their presence.

Delegates have the right to deliver speeches, and this will also be determined in advance. The number of delegates is being уточняется (finalized), and the total will reach approximately 2,000 people. As you know, three candidates are participating in the election.

If any candidate receives 20 votes in the first round, a second round will not be held. If none of the three candidates receives 20 or more votes, then a second round will be held between the two leading candidates — on the same day, at the same place,” said Andria Jagmaidze.
