Georgian Prime Minister Announces Government and Security Service Personnel Changes

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced several personnel changes during a press conference.

According to him, a new Ministry of Regional Development will be established in Georgia. One of its main objectives will be to ensure the maximum efficiency and profitability of initiatives aimed at regional development. Previously, these functions were part of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development. To implement this, Parliament must approve the necessary legislative amendments, with a decision expected during the session week of April 15–18. The new ministry will be headed by the current chief of the State Security Service, Grigol Liluashvili, whose term is coming to an end.

The Ministry of Infrastructure will be led by the current head of the unified ministry, Irakli Karseladze.

According to Kobakhidze, the new head of the State Security Service will be Anri Okhanashvili, who has been serving as Minister of Justice since late last year. His appointment is expected to be confirmed this week.

Paata Salia, a well-known lawyer and former CEO of the broadcasting company Rustavi 2, currently a member of Parliament from the Georgian Dream party, will be appointed as the new Minister of Justice.
