The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has charged one individual in connection with the fraudulent acquisition of a large sum of money
“The Department of Procedural Supervision over Criminal Cases of Fraud at the Tbilisi Prosecutor’s Office has brought charges against one person for the fraudulent appropriation of land plots and the production and use of a forged official document,” the Prosecutor’s Office reports.
“According to an investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it was established that the accused fabricated a fake passport in the victim’s name and opened a fraudulent bank account. He then sold land plots belonging to the victim, located in Tbilisi, Mtskheta, and Rustavi, for 1,354,000 lari.
The charges have been brought in absentia under Article 362, Part 2, Subparagraph ‘b’ of the Criminal Code of Georgia (making and using a forged document that caused significant damage) and Article 180, Part 3, Subparagraph ‘b’ (fraud committed on a large scale), which provides for a prison sentence of up to 9 years.
The Prosecutor’s Office will apply to the court within the legally established period requesting the preventive measure of detention,” the statement says.
