Police in Georgia detained one person on charges of intentionally causing minor bodily harm and the illegal acquisition, possession, and carrying of a firearm

Officers of the Adjara Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, together with law enforcement agencies of the Republic of Turkey, detained a 34-year-old man identified as I.M., who has previously been convicted multiple times for various crimes. The suspect was charged with intentionally causing minor bodily harm and the illegal acquisition, possession, and carrying of a firearm, the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.
“The investigation established that the accused, during a domestic dispute in Batumi, shot and wounded a 44-year-old man, identified as A.A., in the lower limb. After the incident, the suspect attempted to flee the country, heading toward the Sarpi border crossing point.
The injured man was taken to a hospital, where he received appropriate medical treatment. His life and health are not in danger.
Officers of the Adjara Police Department, together with Turkish law enforcement agencies, detained I.M. shortly after the incident.
The investigation is being conducted under Articles 120 and 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The offense is punishable by up to seven years of imprisonment,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated.
