Employees of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia have arrested eight people on charges of drug-related offenses. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia reports this.

“Citizens of Georgia and foreign nationals have been arrested on charges of illegally purchasing and possessing particularly large quantities of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances as part of a group, facilitating the sale of drugs, as well as illegally cultivating plants containing narcotic substances.

As a result of operational measures and investigative activities carried out as part of the criminal case, it was established that the suspects placed drugs in specific locations selected in advance and then sent the relevant coordinates and photographs indicating their locations to interested individuals.

As a result of searches of the suspects’ personal and temporary residences, as well as 44 locations indicated by them, law enforcement officers seized, as evidence, particularly large quantities of various narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances prepared for sale, including methadone, mephedrone, alpha-PVP, MDMA, hashish, ketamine, and marijuana.

During the investigative activities, law enforcement officers also seized materials necessary for packaging narcotic drugs, as well as money allegedly obtained from the sale of drugs.

The investigation is being conducted under Articles 260, 260¹ and 261 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carry a penalty of up to 20 years’ imprisonment or life imprisonment,” the statement said.
