Investigative Service of the Georgian Ministry of Finance Detained Two Individuals on Charges of Large-Scale Misappropriation of Property
Employees of the Investigative Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, in coordination with the General Prosecutor’s Office, carried out operational-search activities and investigative actions that resulted in the detention of two individuals accused of large-scale misappropriation of property by a group acting in prior collusion. Charges were also filed in absentia against another individual. The information was released by the Investigative Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia.
“The investigation established that the accused, following a pre-arranged scheme, unlawfully unloaded in Georgia fish worth 1,144,716 GEL from two trailers that were transiting from Norway to Kazakhstan, and the members of the criminal group misappropriated it.
It was also determined that, in order to conceal the crime, the empty trailers left the country in the direction of Azerbaijan. According to the documents submitted at customs, it appeared as though the transportation of the said fish was continuing.
Appropriate measures are being carried out to identify and prosecute other individuals involved in the crime.
The investigation is being conducted under parts 2 and 3 of Article 182 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for imprisonment for a term of seven to eleven years,” the released statement says.
