Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs: law enforcement officers have seized up to 103 kilograms of the narcotic substance “methamphetamine,” the value of which on the so-called “black market” is estimated at around 30 million lari
Employees of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Customs Department of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance, as a result of joint operational and investigative activities, have uncovered another case of international drug trafficking.
According to the Director of the Central Criminal Police Department, Davit Kiknadze, who spoke at a briefing at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, law enforcement agencies seized a particularly large amount — up to 103 kilograms of the narcotic substance “methamphetamine,” with an estimated market value of around 30 million lari on the so-called “black market.”
He also stated that one person has been detained in connection with the illegal purchase, possession of a particularly large quantity of drugs, and illegal importation into Georgia.
“During the investigation of the criminal case, it was established that a truck belonging to one of the companies, loaded with caustic soda, entered Georgia from a neighboring country and was intended to transit to a third country. During a detailed inspection of the cargo, law enforcement officers discovered a particularly large amount of narcotic substances distributed in bags.
In order to identify other persons involved in the case and bring them to criminal responsibility, relevant complex measures are being carried out in an intensive manner. The investigation is ongoing under Articles 260 and 262 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provide for up to 20 years of imprisonment or life imprisonment,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated at the briefing.
According to the agency, the fight against drug-related crime remains one of the main priorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“Law enforcement officers carry out 24-hour comprehensive police operations to identify individuals involved in drug crimes and bring them to criminal responsibility,” said the Director of the Central Criminal Police Department.
