Georgia’s Migration Department Detains 64 Foreign Nationals During Special Immigration Checks

Employees of the Migration Department of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted special immigration control operations across the country. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia reported this.

According to the ministry, 64 foreign nationals who were illegally staying in the country were detained as a result of the comprehensive operations. They include citizens of Jordan, Pakistan, Türkiye, Russia, India, Bangladesh, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, China, Thailand, and Uzbekistan.

“As part of the special immigration control operations, Department employees inspected specific locations and facilities serving various purposes. The inspections aimed to identify foreign nationals staying in Georgia without legal grounds.
It was established that the detained individuals were staying in the country in violation of the requirements of Georgia’s Law on the Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons.

The detainees are currently being held at the Migration Department’s temporary accommodation centre. The relevant procedures are underway to deport them from the country.
It should be noted that since the legislative amendments came into force, Migration Department employees have checked a total of more than 20,000 foreign nationals as part of special immigration control operations,” the statement said.
