Former Georgian Defense Minister Burchuladze and Opposition Leader Khabeishvili Detained

Former Georgian Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze has been detained on corruption charges, the State Security Service announced.
Burchuladze held the post from February 22, 2021, to February 8, 2024. He faces 9 to 12 years in prison.
The State Security Service also detained one of the leaders of the opposition party United National Movement, Levan Khabeishvili.

According to the State Security Service, Khabeishvili was detained “on charges of publicly offering monetary rewards to officials as bribes.” This is connected to his proposal to pay $200,000 to law enforcement officers who would refuse to carry out orders or provide him with information related to their official duties. He faces 4 to 7 years in prison.
